Your country

What we assume about your country

Every number the model assumes for your country on one page: pension, care, healthcare, budgets and tax, each with the source it came from.

Most of what a retirement plan runs on is local. When your state pension starts and how it rises, what a surviving partner keeps, what healthcare and long-term care cost, what a retired household spends, and how your withdrawals are taxed: all of it changes at the border. Generic calculators paper over that with one set of defaults. This model carries a researched set for each of the twenty countries it supports, and prefills your plan with your country’s own numbers.

Pick your country

Each page collects every number the model assumes for that country, with the publication each one came from and the date we last read it. The tax rules get a full page of their own underneath, listing every figure the tax model charges there and everything it does not do.

What these pages are for

They are the receipts behind your prefills. During setup, the planner fills each field with your country’s figure and names its source under the field; the link there lands on your country’s page, on the exact section that explains the number. Change any figure you know better, and the model uses yours instead.

The machinery that uses these numbers, and the tables comparing all twenty countries side by side, live in the technical reference. How the tax model works as a whole is on the tax page.

If a figure for your country looks wrong, tell us. Every one of them links to its source, so you can check us against the publisher directly.
